LOFT CONVERSION FAQ'S

BUILDING CONTROL

Whether you need planning permission or not you will still need to have the work checked by building control. This is important as if you sell your house you will need to prove that the work has been carried out properly.

ABOUT PLANNING PERMISSION

If you are extending your property to the side or rear you are allowed to extend by a certain volume before you need planning permission.(50 cubic metres for a terraced house or 70 cubic metres for end of terrace or detached properties).

This is known as your permitted development. Simply, this means that if you do not have any extensions already you will not need planning permission for your loft conversion. The exeption to this is if you live in a conservation area where you will need planning permission for any work carried out.

CAN MY LOFT BE CONVERTED?

Almost all lofts can be converted regardless of shape or size. The only reason that you would not be able to convert your loft is the internal height. As a rough guide you need approx 2200mm to the highest point as a minimum starting point to convert the loft. We also offer a complete building service including extensions, fitted kitchens, roofing etc...
